Household Chemical Cleanout is back!

Households across the Warrumbungle Shire are being encouraged to take part in the upcoming Household Chemical Cleanout 2021.

The Household Chemical Cleanout is taking place in April with the collection scheduled for 8:00am till 11:00am on Saturday 24 April 2021, at the Coonabarabran Landfill on Baradine Road.

“This annual event is an opportunity for people across the Shire to safely dispose of potentially hazardous chemicals around their homes,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “During the COVID-19 restrictions in 2020 there was a widespread rise in home improvements and home clean outs, so this chemical cleanout event offers residents a great way to responsibly dispose of any unwanted left-over chemicals free of charge”.

“The Household Chemical Cleanout is a good reminder to have a look and clear out the kitchen cupboards, garden sheds and laundry shelves, and remove toxic products from your home, disposing of them in a safe way,” said Cr Doolan.

“Unwanted household products such as paint, gas cylinders and batteries can all be dropped off through this collection. As well as this, more unusual toxic chemicals such as acids and cyanide-based products and flares can also be dropped off. These are high risk products and they need to be handled and disposed of correctly.”

“Particular care should be taken to ensure all chemicals are transported safely to the collection centre and that this is a free service for household quantities only,” Cr Doolan explained.

Warrumbungle Shire Council is one of the 19 Net Waste member council areas in the Central West Region who are holding a household chemical cleanout collection.
