Electric car charging station

In a first for this region, an electronic car charging station has been installed in the carpark at the Coonabarabran Visitor Information Centre. The station will be officially opened in March 2020. ‚Äč

“Council and its Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee were pleased to work with the NRMA to develop the idea for a car charging station at Coonabarabran” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Denis Todd. “The charging station is strategically located to give drivers the opportunity to stretch their legs, use amenities, and drop in to the Visitor Information Centre to explore attractions the Warrumbungle Region has to offer.”

Cr Todd said “electronic car charging stations are being rolled out across regional NSW and the ACT as part of an NRMA initiative. The station at Coonabarabran joins at least forty (40) in regional NSW and the ACT, including Tamworth, Dubbo, Parkes, Mudgee, Bathurst and Orange. The program aims to drive the next generation of motoring tourists to the region, improving mobility and contributing to the local tourism economies.”

The electronic car charging station program is fully funded by NRMA, including the construction and ongoing costs and maintenance, with no cost to Council. NRMA has committed $10 million to build one of Australia's largest electric vehicle fast charging networks.
