Coonabarabran Bike Pump Track is ready to ride

BMX and skateboard riders will be delighted with the completion of the new Coonabarabran Pump Track, which is now open to the community.

“It is exciting to see a new facility for the youth of Coonabarabran,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “This Pump Track is located on the western side of the sport and recreation building, adjacent to the tennis courts, and with a focus on youth activities and fitness this track will complement the existing skate park in Coonabarabran.”

“A Pump Track is a circular track similar in nature to a BMX bike track with dips and crests and banked turns that will test the fitness of bike riders and scooter riders alike. The difference a pump track has to a BMX track is that it is designed to maximise the rider’s momentum, so that it can be ridden with minimal pedaling,” Cr Doolan explained.

“This new style of pump track will challenge users to pump their bikes or scooters all the way around the loop track without adding extra momentum.”

“While the Pump Track is now open to the public, works will still continue at the site for installation of surrounding features such as a concrete path connecting the pump track to the skate park, a car park, drinking water stand, new turf and an irrigation system,” said Cr Doolan.

This project has been funded under the Australian Government’s Drought Communities Fund extension program.

“This Track will be a great asset to the Coonabarabran community creating a leisure and recreation hub down at Coonabarabran’s oval complex. I look forward to seeing this new facility being utilised by the local community and travellers”, said Cr Doolan.
