Coolah Rising Water Main

The water supply system in Coolah has been improved with the installation of a new section of dedicated rising main now complete.

“Constructing this new section of rising main in Coolah was aimed at improving the water supply by ensuring the rising and reticulation mains are running in the most efficient way,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “The new water main has now been brought into use after successful testing and flushing.”

“The new section of pipeline begins at the bottom of Goddard Street and connects to the existing main at the intersection at Hospital and Martin Street. To complete the dedicated rising main all the way to the reservoir, further new main installations are required in the future,” said Cr Doolan.

“The installation of the rising main will deliver water directly to the reservoir and improve the turnover of water in the reservoir and increase the chlorine contact time.”

“It will also reduce operational costs with a more direct route from the bore to the reservoir and bigger pipe diameter, as well as increased water security due to the new equipment being less susceptible to breaks,” Cr Doolan explained.

“The new rising main will also enable Council to take the booster pump station in Hospital Street that currently pumps water to the Wentworth Ave reservoirs offline. This will reduce operational cost in energy and maintenance as well as capital cost that would be required for an upcoming replacement of infrastructure.”

“These works will benefit the Coolah community now and into the future, creating a more efficient water system,” Cr Doolan concluded.
