Christmas 2022 message from the Mayor

The countdown to Christmas has reached its final days, ending another busy year. This is a time of reflection and an opportunity to look forward to the days ahead.

Christmas is a time of giving, it is the time to share love, peace, and joy. This season we give our attention to our loved ones and friends. We will give out gifts and hugs or give someone a seat at our table, there are so many things that we can give.

Over the festive season many of us will be fortunate enough to spend time with family and friends after so many celebrations have been cancelled during the years of pandemic. It has been a great pleasure to be able to connect with so many of you in various settings this year.

Over the past year our local government area has been hit hard by storm and flooding events, with three natural disasters declared since November 2021. Council has worked hard with the State and Federal Governments to secure funding for restoration works on badly damaged roads throughout the LGA, and road crews have been putting in long hours 6 days a week to deliver as many repairs as possible.

There are challenging, yet exciting, times ahead. Major infrastructure developments are set to arrive in the Warrumbungle LGA with the Inland Rail project, and the Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) which will see associated wind and solar farm developments. These projects are major national infrastructure developments that will have a significant impact on our region. While there are many and varied views on these developments, it is vitally important to ensure they contribute as much as possible to our LGA. In 2023 we will continue to work with local organisations and other levels of government to maximise the benefits of these major projects, and also on issues like our local roads and promoting investment and tourism. Together we will work to ensure the Warrumbungle LGA is a safe and prosperous place.

The Warrumbungle LGA is lucky to have many community groups, volunteers and businesses that all contribute to making this the special place we call home. I thank each and every one of you for supporting our towns in your own way.

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe, healthy and happy new year.
