Australia Day Awards 2021

On Australia Day 2021 communities across Warrumbungle Shire came together to celebrate what’s great about our country, our local communities and some outstanding local achievers. 

Celebrating his first Australia Day as Mayor, Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan, attended events in Binnaway, Dunedoo and Coolah.

“It was great to attend the local events and celebrate Australia Day with so many people in our communities”, said Cr Doolan. “As part of the celebrations, I and the other Councillors were pleased to present some very worthy recipients with Warrumbungle Shire Council Australia Day Awards for 2021.”

Cr Doolan said, “We had many high-quality nominations for this year’s awards and the Selection Committee was challenged in making the final selections.”
  
The recipients of the 2021 Warrumbungle Shire Council Australia Day Awards were:

Citizen of the Year  Jim Larkin and Carol Richard	Senior Citizen of the Year  Heather Edgell
Environmental Citizen of the Year  Juleen Young	Sportsperson of the Year  Dunedoo Swannettes
Cultural Achievement Award  Aimee Rossler	Young Citizen of the Year  Luke Bonello
Young Environmental Citizen of the Year  Coonabarabran High School D7 Support Unit Class	Young Sportsperson of the Year  Ashanti Pennell and Alirah Watton
Community Event of the Year  Central West Cycle Trail

“These awards are a great opportunity to celebrate what’s great about our local communities and recognise people for their outstanding achievements and contributions in the last 12 months and I would like to take this opportunity to again congratulate not only the award recipients but all the nominees,” concluded Cr Doolan.
