Annual Household Chemical Cleanout

Households across the Warrumbungle Shire are being encouraged to take part in the upcoming Household Chemical Cleanout.

The Household Chemical Cleanout is taking place in December with the collection scheduled for 8:00am till 11:00am on Sunday, 1 December 2019, at the Coonabarabran Landfill on Baradine Road.

“This annual event is an opportunity for people across the Shire to safely dispose of potentially hazardous chemicals around their homes”, said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Denis Todd, “the cleanout event offers residents a great way to do their spring cleaning by providing a free drop off point for unwanted chemicals”.

“The annual Household Chemical Cleanout is a good reminder to clear out household kitchen cupboards, garden sheds and laundry shelves. This campaign is all about removing toxic products from homes and disposing of them in a safe way,” Cr Todd said.

“Unwanted household products such as paint, gas cylinders and batteries can all be dropped off through this collection. As well as this, more unusual toxic chemicals such as acids and cyanide-based products and flares can also be dropped off. These are high risk products and they need to be handled and disposed of correctly.”

Cr Todd reminded people that, “particular care should be taken to ensure all chemicals are transported safely to the collection centre and that this is a free service for household quantities only”.

Warrumbungle Shire Council is one of the 17 Net Waste member council areas who are holding a household chemical cleanout collection from October through to December.
