Annual Free Microchipping Program
Free Microchipping days across the Shire are returning in 2022, benefiting communities and pet owners.
“Last year, Council’s Compliance Officers held free microchipping days across the towns throughout the Shire, to ensure dogs and cats within the Shire are microchipped and able to be identified if lost,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “These days were so successful last year, with a great turn out, that Council will be running this program again this year.”
“Microchipping your animals not only benefits the animal and pet owner but also the community. When an animal escapes, or is missing, the most reliable way to identify the animal is for Compliance Officers to scan their microchip, allowing the animal to be returned to their owner quickly and safely,” said Cr Doolan.
In NSW, all cats and dogs, other than exempt cats and dogs, must be microchipped by 12 weeks of age or before being sold, whichever happens first.
“The recent free microchipping program was a big success, with an excellent participation rate from the community seeking to have their pets microchipped for free, which is great to see,” said Cr Doolan.
Dates for the next free microchipping program are now being scheduled for early spring 2022. These microchipping days will be held in each town across the Shire across various weekends so keep an eye out for advertising closer to the date.
“This is also a good reminder for pet owners who have animals that are already microchipped to make sure their details on the microchip are correct and they can be updated online or at the Council Offices,” Cr Doolan concluded.
