Adopt a pet now

If you would like to offer a cat or dog a loving home for the rest of its life, then you may want to considering adopting.

“Rehoming pets is giving these animals a second chance with a loving home and opportunity to extend the family. Rather than these beautiful animals taking up space in the pound, Council rehomes animals that are suitable to find their forever homes,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “Dogs and cats that have been picked up and their owners are unable to be found, or where the owners have handed animals over to Council Compliance Officers, are housed at the Council Animal Pound will be put up for adoption within the Warrumbungle Local Government Area (LGA).”

“Residents are reminded that an adopted or new pet is a long-term commitment and a big responsibility. Pets need time, training, and love,” said Cr Doolan.

Getting your home “pet ready” prior to taking possession of your adopted or new pet is a great idea to help your pet settle in faster. Look at the fence for possible escape holes, kennels, cat enclosures, bedding, food, bowls, leads and harnesses.

If you are planning on committing to a new pet it is strongly recommended (unless under veterinary advice) to have your pet desexed as soon as possible to reduce the risk of unwanted litters in the future.

“If you have considered adding a pet to your family it would be a great place to start looking and considering giving these loving pets a forever home,” Cr Doolan concluded.

When the Warrumbungle LGA has pets available for rehoming, pictures and details of these animals will be posted on the Council website. Click here to view the pets available for adoption.

Council urges our residents to look at giving these fur babies a chance to be adopted into a loving home. Pets available for adoption can be viewed in person by calling Council and arranging a time with the Compliance Officers on (02) 6849 2000.
