Works commence on Stronger Country Communities Fund projects

Works have commenced on the construction of the multipurpose courts and upgrades to the Coonabarabran Sport and Recreation Centre.

Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Peter Shinton, said “ït is pleasing to see these works get underway. These are projects that the community of Coonabarabran has waited a long time for so it’s great to see such progress in the first few weeks of construction”.

The construction of the multipurpose courts and upgrades to the Coonabarabran Sport and Recreation Centre are being funded under the NSW Governments’ Stronger Country Communities Fund. Co-contributions for both projects have also been made by Council.

“The construction of the multipurpose courts will see the development of five (5) multipurpose hard courts. Courts will be marked and have suitable hoops to play both netball and basketball. Courts will also be able to be used for informal activities and play that require a hard surface”, Clr Shinton said.

“Once the courts are completed Coonabarabran will have enough courts to host regional netball competitions which is great not only for netballers but for the whole community. With  the  construction  of  the  lights,  it  also  means  that  the  courts  can  be  used  all throughout the year”, said Clr Shinton.

“Works on the Coonabarabran Sport and Recreation Centre will include refurbishment of the squash courts, installation of new grandstands, new kitchen equipment for the canteen and heating and cooling throughout the centre. This building has not had much work done on it for a number of years so this is a great opportunity to do some quite significant works to the centre”, said Clr Shinton.

“The Stronger Country Communities Fund is a tremendous opportunity to invest some significant funds in local sport and recreation infrastructure”, Clr Shinton said.

Clr Shinton said, “Council will be keeping the community up to date with regular updates on the projects on our website. Council has started a page which will have weekly updates from each of the projects. The updates will include what’s happened throughout the week and include images of the construction and the works”.

“We’re keen for the community to know what we’re doing every step of the way with these projects. These are community facilities and we want the community to be able to see what’s happening
and where we’re at with the projects”, said Clr Shinton.
