Warrumbungle Shire tourism and economic development strategy

Warrumbungle Shire Council has engaged experienced consultant Jenny Rand to develop a five (5) year tourism and economic development strategy for the Shire.

Warrumbungle Shire Council’s Manager of Economic Development and Tourism, Aileen Bell, said, “in the past few years Council has consulted on a number of plans, most notably the Community Strategic Plan and Disability Inclusion Action Plan”.

“We have also recently had consultants here talking to the community about an economic development plan for the Castlereagh region, which includes our Shire and Gilgandra Shire”, said Mrs Bell.

“Input from all of these consultations and plans will be included in this strategy but now is the time to talk about the tourism and economic development plans and opportunities for our towns and our Shire”, explained Mrs Bell.

The Tourism and Economic Development Strategy is being completed by Jenny Rand on behalf of Warrumbungle Shire Councils Economic Development and Tourism Committee which is chaired by Warrumbungle Shire Councillor, Clr Anne-Louise Capel.

Mrs Bell said, “Jenny Rand has been selected to work on the development of the strategy as not only did she complete the previous strategy but she is also familiar with the
broader region having completed work on the Kamilaroi Highway strategy and Narrabri Shire Council’s tourism strategy”.

“I’m really looking forward to this strategy being developed”, said Mrs Bell.

“There are so many great things happening in Warrumbungle Shire and so many opportunities for tourism and economic development”, she said.

“We are very keen to have input from as many people as possible in the development of this strategy. A lot has changed since we developed the last strategy. People have come and gone and we’re keen to hear from those who took part in conversations around the last strategy, as well as those people who are new to Shire”, said Mrs Bell.
“Consultations are being held in all towns in the Shire, with a schedule of appointments being prepared to enable Jenny to engage with people in local communities”, said Mrs Bell.

Jenny Rand will be in the following towns on the days and dates outlined below:

  • Coolah - Saturday, 16 June 2018
  • Mendooran, Binnaway, Dunedoo - Monday, 18 June 2018
