Notice of 'Smoke Testing' of Sewerage Systems

Between 9 October 2017 and 30 November 2017, Warrumbungle Shire Council is undertaking a sewerage system testing program.

The program is intended to identify non-compliant sewerage connections.  It is important that all connections to the sewerage system be compliant with current standards. Non-compliant connections can lead to the sewerage system becoming overloaded with stormwater from house roofs, backyards, and streets.  This can damage pipes, overload the sewerage treatment plant and cause sewerage to overflow into properties, bushland, and waterways.  Council is committed to providing residents with better sewerage services and playing our part in improving local waterways.

Testing is done using a non-toxic, environmentally friendly dense mist or ‘smoke’, which is blown into the system.  In a small number of instances there is the potential for some of this ‘smoke’ to enter the tested residence.  In this case it is advisable to open the windows and ventilate the property.

For further information please contact Council’s Technical Services department on 6849 2000.
