Level 6 water restrictions and taking care of your pets

Council is aware of concerns expressed by a number of residents in Mendooran in relation to the recently implemented Level 6 water restrictions.‚Äč

On Tuesday, 29 January 2019 Mendooran was placed on Level 6 water restrictions. Level 6 water restrictions were introduced due to ongoing dry conditions, dropping river and bore levels and ongoing issues with algae. The Level 6 restrictions were introduced as previous water restrictions did not have the desired impact on consumption.

At this stage, under the current Level 6 water restrictions residents are able to give water to their domestic pets for drinking, however washing of pets should be limited.

Council urges all residents to be mindful of the amount of water they are using and to minimise water usage wherever possible.

In relation to the Level 6 water restrictions, residents may not be aware that this is the first time that these Level 6 water restrictions have been implemented in Warrumbungle Shire.

New restrictions for Levels 1 – 6 were endorsed by Council as part of the Drought Management Plan which was approved, after a period of public consultation, at the October 2018 Council Meeting.

Water restrictions introduced since the adoption of the Drought Management Plan will differ from water restrictions implemented prior to October 2018.

Residents interested in the Drought Management Plan can access a copy of the Plan on Council’s website. The Drought Management Plan includes a plan for the Shire as a whole as well as a specific plan for each water supply.

If residents have concerns in relation to the Level 6 water restrictions currently in place, or any other matters related to the water supply in Mendooran, they are encouraged to contact Councildirectly.
