From Waste to Recovery - New Kerbside Recycling Services

Warrumbungle Shire Council will soon begin to roll out its new kerbside 240lt recycling bin service within the town boundaries, with collections first commencing in Dunedoo and Mendooran on Monday, 23 October 2017.  This service has been implemented on all rural collections over the last 2 years during which time the amount of recycling has increased significantly.

This new collection service will help increase the amount of diverted recyclable waste materials from landfill to Council’s recently commissioned Material Recycling Facility at Coonabarabran.  This recycling initiative will provide a significant contribution to the NSW Government’s commitment to increasing waste diversion from landfill by 75% and increasing recycling rates to 70% for municipal solid waste.

What can I recycle?
It is important that you only use the new recycling bins for materials that can be recycled:

Paper and Cardboard

Aluminium Cans

Plastic Bottles and Containers

Steel Cans

Glass Bottles and Jars

Cardboard boxes
Milk containers

Soft drink cans
Beer cans
Aerosol cans

Milk bottles
Soft drink bottles
Yoghurt containers
Rigid plastics

Food cans
Jar lids
Pet food cans

Condiment jars
Wine bottles
Beer bottles
Any colour

What do I need to do?
  • Place your new 240 litre yellow lid recycling bin on the kerbside the night before collection.

  • Position it at least one metre away from your general waste bin and other objects.

  • Do not overfill the bin - the lid of the bin must be closed to be collected.

When does the collection service start?
Collection services will commence in Mendooran and Dunedoo on Monday, 23 October 2017.  The service will be rolled out throughout the other Shire towns over the coming months and residents will be notified of their commencement through local and social media.  240 litre yellow lid bins will be delivered throughout these towns shortly before collections begin.

How often is the bin collected?
The new recycling service will operate on a fortnightly basis.

Does this affect the general waste collection service?
No, the normal kerbside collection of general waste will continue on a weekly basis in all towns.
