Coonabarabran Skate Park upgraded in time for summer

The Coonabarabran Skate Park has undergone a make over with upgraded amenities and a fresh look ahead of the onset of warmer months. ‚Äč

“The Coonabarabran Skate Park was opened in 2005 and is situated within the Coonabarabran Sporting Complex. The skate park is a concrete construction with various ramps, jumps, and landings, and is predominately used by skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter riders”, explained Warrumbungle Shire Council Acting Mayor, Councillor Aniello Iannuzzi. “Council saw the need for sun protected areas to be created allowing the skate park to be used and enjoyed all year round.”

“Council received funding from the NSW Government through Round 2 of the Stronger Country Communities Fund for the installation of shade sails over the existing skate park, and 2 new shade shelters with tables and seating directly adjacent to the skate park. The objective of this project is to increase participation and facility utilisation by improving existing infrastructure”, said Cr Iannuzzi.

Cr Iannuzzi explained, “This objective will be achieved by providing a more comfortable and sun smart facility for users during the warmer months with the addition of shade sails over the skate park. The facility is further improved by upgrading the existing table and seating.”

“The striking blue and yellow colours of the shade sails over the skate park were selected based on suggestions from the Coonabarabran Sporting Complex Advisory Committee.”

Cr Iannuzzi said, “Council is hoping that with the shade sails and the new shelters with tables and seating the local community as well as travellers passing through will be drawn to the facility’s bright colours and enjoy the skate park all year round.”

“Council would like to thank the NSW Government for the funding to allow this project to be completed as it has enhanced Coonabarabran’s community assets greatly”, concluded Cr Iannuzzi.
