Container Depsit Scheme hits the one million mark

More than one million containers have now been deposited at Return and Earn return sites run by Warrumbungle Shire Council.

Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Cr Peter Shinton said, “just over one (1) million containers have now been returned to the collection points run by Council across the Shire. This is a fantastic achievement and we are looking forward to this momentum continuing.”

Cr Shinton said, “as well as reaching the one million mark, between the Dunedoo and Coonabarabran over the counter collection points, Warrumbungle Shire Council is also placed in the top 20 over the counter collection points in the State for the most containers being recycled through the Return and Earn program.”

Cr Shinton continued by saying, “we are extremely proud of everyone who has been involved in the NSW Container Deposit Scheme throughout the Shire and would like to thank the community for their participation. I would also like to say a big thank you to the Warrumbungle Waste staff who have made reaching the one million mark possible.”

“As a result of this amazing achievement, and these one million containers being returned and recycled, we now have fewer beverage containers being littered, fewer beverage containers ending up in landfill and more beverage containers being recycled in our local communities.” said Cr Shinton.

Warrumbungle Shire Council is proud to be participating in the NSW Container Deposit Scheme, Return and Earn. The Return and Earn program is the largest litter reduction scheme ever introduced in NSW with over 600 Return and Earn return points across the State. Warrumbungle Shire Council currently has two over the counter collection points – one at Coonabarabran Waste Depot and one at the Dunedoo Transfer Station.

To get involved in the Return and Earn program all you need to do is:
