Binnaway Water Restriction Notice

Residents of Binnaway are advised that important maintenance works are required to be performed at the Binnaway Water Treatment Plant. These works will improve water supply quality and safety.

The works are scheduled to be performed between Monday, 25 June 2018 and Friday, 29 June 2018. Further works may also need to occur between Monday, 23 July 2018 and Friday, 27 July 2018.

To test the impact of the arrangements to be put in place during the scheduled works the town reservoir will be drained to a low level on Tuesday, 19 June 2018 and Wednesday, 20 June 2018.

During this test period, there is the possibility of reduced water supply pressure and supply may cease. Residents are advised to fill containers and water bottles as an emergency supply before Tuesday, 19 June 2018 in case supply is lost.

Residents are asked to notify Council as soon as possible if your water supply is lost during this period.

Council staff will assess water supply availability on outside taps at selected locations throughout the reticulation system during this period.

During the maintenance works, from Monday, 25 June 2018 and Friday, 29 June 2018, the Water Treatment Plant will be offline and town water supply will rely on water that can be stored in the town reservoir only.

During the scheduled works Council requires assistance from residents to preserve stored water in the town reservoir.

There is the possibility of reduced water supply pressure in the period during which water restrictions apply. Water pressure may drop significantly or supply cease temporarily, especially for residents above the railway line. Residents are advised to fill containers and water bottles as an emergency supply before Sunday, 24 June 2018 in case supply is lost.

To meet demand for town water, the following restrictions will apply from 5:00pm Sunday, 24 June 2018 till 12:00pm on Saturday, 30 June 2018:

  • no outdoor water use whatsoever; and
  • avoid using washing machines wherever possible

The following water saving measures should also be taken during the period the restrictions are in place:

  • take short showers of less than 3 minutes and avoid taking baths; and
  • do not leave any taps running unnecessarily, eg. when brushing teeth.

Restrictions may need be repeated for the period from Sunday, 22 July 2018 till Saturday 28 July 2018. Residents will be advised accordingly closer to date if this is the case.

Council apologises for any inconvenience these arrangements may cause.
