Work Experience

Council offers many areas for work experience and values the opportunity to participate in work experience programs for our local school students as well as TAFE and university students who undertake placements to assist them in their studies. 

How to Apply

All applications for work experience must be in writing, and meet the guidelines below. Please note that verbal discussions held with proposed supervisors are only preliminary and do not ensure placement approval.

Schools and Training Organisations are asked to complete Council's Work Experience Application FormWork Experience Application Form and return it with the required documentation to careers@warrumbungle.nsw.gov.au at least 1 month prior to requested commencement. 

  1. School / Student must submit the following documents at least one month before the proposed work experience start date.
    • Work Experience Application Form
    • Student Placement Record (schools only)
    • Certificate of Currency showing student is covered by school's insurances
    • Student's White Card (if required, see below)
  2. Every student being hosted by Council must complete an online induction prior to commencing work experience. This will be arranged by a member of the Organisation Development team. 
  3. Students hosted within the Technical/Environmental & Development Services Division of Council must hold an OHS Construction Induction Certificate (white card), a copy of which must be provided to Council not later than 10 days prior to commencement.  In addition, the student must carry this card with them at all times while on work experience.
  4. Pursuant to Council's Sun Safe and Personal Protective Equipment Policy, all students working outdoors must wear:
    • Long work trousers
    • Long sleeve work shirt (high visibility preferred)
    • Safety Toe boots
    • Broadbrimmed hat
    • Sunglasses
    • Sunscreen.
  5. Students working indoors and at Yuluwirri Kids Preschool and Long Day Care Centre do not require safety toe boots however enclosed shoes and appropriate attire must be worn. 
  6. All students should be advised that they are also required to comply with any work health and safety directions and to wear any additional personal protective equipment (PPE) that may be issued to them (eg high visibility vest, ear plugs).
  7. Students working with outdoor should also bring their lunch/snacks and a large water bottle with them as they may not be unable to leave the worksite to purchase lunch.

All applicants for work experience will be advised one week prior to their start date whether all Council's requirements have been met.  Please note that failure to meet the above requirements will result in work experience not being approved. While every effort is made to accommodate work placement requests, at times Council may need to decline applications based on operational grounds.
